La mer Cosmetics. We have made it our mission to create exceptionally gentle, exclusive skincare products from one of the Earth's richest substances: Sea Silt. As a Northern German company, we at La mer feel a special connection to the Wadden Sea National Park and its diverse natural treasures – and we are well aware of the beauty-enhancing properties of its marine ingredients.
40 YEARS LA MER
History of La mer
Our journey began in 1981: After the physiotherapist Paul Gojny discovered the healing effects of Sea Silt on the skin, he started incorporating marine ingredients into cosmetics to alleviate various skin issues. Success proved him right: Today, La mer employs around 60 people at our headquarters in Cuxhaven, as well as in our branch office in Düsseldorf, and additional field staff who distribute our products throughout Germany, Austria, and Spain. We now offer twelve different skincare lines to address various skincare needs.

As a family-owned business, we take pride in our journey, which has never focused on quick profits but has always aimed to develop high-quality skincare products for our discerning customers. At the same time, we place great importance on the well-being of both the company and our employees. These are the core principles of our La mer company values:
Quality
All La mer skincare products are 'Made in Germany' and manufactured according to GMP standards (Good Manufacturing Practice, certified to Cosmetic GMP EN ISO 22716). They contain high-quality marine ingredients such as algae extracts and sea salt. The distinctive main component of our marine cosmetics is the mineral- and oxygen-rich Sea Silt Extract, which is obtained from North Sea mud using an exclusive and globally unique extraction process. It originates from a habitat in close proximity to our headquarters. Its effectiveness has been dermatologically tested.
Compatibility
Our La mer skincare products are recommended primarily for their excellent skin compatibility. To achieve this, we have collaborated closely with experienced medical professionals such as Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Petra Staubach, Senior Physician at the Skin Clinic, University Medical Center Mainz, and Prof. Dr. med. Harald P. M. Gollnick from the Department of Dermatology at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg. This ensures that the latest scientific insights are always incorporated into the production of our La mer products. Research and development take place under the strictest conditions in our in-house La mer laboratory.

Cosmetics from Northern Germany
Our marine cosmetics are 100% 'Made in Germany.' The development, production, and filling of La mer skincare products take place at our headquarters in Cuxhaven. There, right on the North Sea coast, we have exclusive rights to extract Sea Silt from a habitat that we harvest and process. Many manufacturing steps are still carried out by hand. All departments work closely, effectively, and flexibly with and for each other to ensure the high quality of La mer products at every stage of production. However, the detailed production process of the unique Sea Silt Extract and La mer skincare products remains our closely guarded secret.
